i have had the 5mp sony ericsson k850i blue mobile phone for about 4 weeks now having upgraded from the 3.2mp k800i. i do not think that this is a well designed mobile. the keys are ideal for children but will prove frustrating for adults to use. the k800i had a lovely antislip coating on the body while the new version is super shiney and easily scratched. the decision to change the combined rocker/navigation and push OK key to two seperate keys is badly flawed in my opinion. the k800i was a joy to use one handed but this new upgrade model is a step backwards. my first impressions were that the keys were too small for adult fingers and the 4 way navigation ring was too thin to use accurately. i also felt that the inclusion of 3 touch screen buttons was unnecessary and added several thumb movements to navigating the menus and selecting your chosen function, but being excited to have a new phone i felt that with time i would get used to it. 4 weeks later i find the key size a tremendous problem as are the touch screen buttons. sometimes one has to press them hard to get them to work while other times they are so sensitive that the slightest accidental brush with a stray finger activates one.
the convoluted menu system is a nightmare. a facility to create shortcuts does exist but is far from perfect, for example one can create a shortcut to messages but not further on to text or picture.
ive also noticed how slow the device operates when turning on the video or still camera. im still toying with the idea of going back to the k800i. this new phone is no better. for those who are thinking about trying it i'd say look at the new nokia n95 8gb instead.

I waited for months for this phone and have never been as disappointed with anything as much in my life. It is fiddly hard to use and nigh on impossible to text without reverting back to another screen. Certainly not designed for men or people who do not have dainty fingers. If you want one try it out first or you will waste your money!

OMG I love this phone. I haven't even had it a week yet and have completley fallen for it. I was a samsung girl through and through and now I have completly change. I have never been one for a decent camera as I could never be bothered to carry it around with my in my tiny bag but I love it now. Having such a good camera on my phone is amazing. I took the best quality pictures in a dark nightclub and they came out like it was day!
There is so much I could go on about with this phone but it would take far too long but to anyone thinking of purchasing this phone DO IT!!!!!!!

I got this phone free on contract and at first I was very excited about getting it, the camera looked good, the music files you can store are good, but I was dissapointed as on the advert it shows the blue line around the outside lighting up- - this does not happen, also I agree with the gent below, if ya not careful with the touch screen u can hit buttons so it has nothing to do with your fat thumbs LOL, the amount of time I connect without realising is unbelieveable. Cheers

Had the phone about ten days now - upgraded from a K800i. Before I review it I should mention I have one niggle which I will leave till the end as it is so minor; I got into Sony as opposed to Nokia via my girlfriend as I love the software. I bought this phone purely as I loved the K800 and wanted to ditch my digital camera - and I have not been disappointed - 5 megapixels and always on hand so bye bye camera. My worry was I'd lose my favourite little extra's, the 'light on for one minute' and 'record' via a quick shortcut - they don't tell you if it's still there in the promotional stuff - and lo and behold there it is. Plus you get 5 alarms instead of two... My old phone plus some. Get a 4 gigabyte memory card for £30 and you have a brilliant phone/camera/MP3 player. So I would say BUY this phone.
Finally, my only little niggle (hence my lower design rating) - the new keypad round the number thing. You will have to learn the skill of not pressing the middle touchscreen key when you select the up button. It is tricky but I got used to it... I guess it is worth it for a bigger screen but it takes practice, or maybe my thumb is to big?
