Nokia E65 Summary

This business oriented 3G smart phone is the very first slider-type phone in Nokia’s E series. Nokia E65 definitely combines style with functionality – it has well thought keypad design, fast Wi-Fi connectivity, 2 megapixel camera and Bluetooth. A phone particularly meant for the business population and without a doubt an excellent and economical handset in Nokia’s E series collection.

Nokia E65 Review - Editor's Review

19 Jun 2008
Nokia released new additions to their E series collection of mobile phones; the E65 together with E61i and E90. For users who are looking for mobile phones with excellent features, handy and attractive design, the Nokia E65 is certainly worthy for consideration. Some user reviews are filled with excitement as they mentioned that the look of the Nokia E65 can never go out of place inside a Jaguar. By overall design, the mobile phone is really flashy when you push it up.

The E65 is a slim slider phone which is only 15.5mm in thickness. Users are definitely attracted to this feature as it feels comfortable in a trouser pocket. It has bright colour screen surrounded by a nice-looking silver frame. Aside from the silver frame, other parts of the phone are made of a rubber-like material making it comfortable and easy to grip.

Another appealing feature of E65 is its lightweight characteristic as it only weighs 115g. It is taller compared to ordinary phones as it extends to 135mm in height every time the slider is pushed open. Although notable for its tall attribute, this has been put to good use because of its well sized keypad. The keys are well shaped and large. It has a width of 10mm and a height of 7mm making it easy for the user’s thumb. In addition, it is also fairly weighted so overbalancing problems are not likely to happen with this type of mobile phone.

A high resolution QVGA display of 240 x 320 pixels, which provides up to 16million colour support, also makes the phone more attractive. Located on the inner portion of the E65 frame is a large central button and easy access keys which are integrated with special business buttons. These are "one touch keys" for conference call functions, mute for handset microphone, and opening of contacts database.

The E65 handset has a range of business features for users to get more out of their workday. It supports 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. This feature is very useful for browsing and downloading data from the web. In addition, quad-band connectivity is provided for international network roaming.

Moreover, the Nokia E65 supports email services and caters to SMTP, IMAP including IMAP4 and POP. Some of its useful features include attachment viewers for documents, spreadsheets and presentations such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, PDF viewers and it even offers a file manager for "ZIP files".

Being a business phone, an interesting application was added - the "Nokia Team Suite". The said application allows setting up groups to execute functions all together. Included in its functions are as follows: sending of messages, viewing of call history and web pages of the team, and making calls to every team member in just one action.

In terms of connectivity, the mobile phone comes with a USB slot, infrared and Bluetooth for faster data transfer. As mentioned earlier, it has a Wi-Fi feature but it is a bit advance than usual. A built-in "Wi-Fi sniffer" is in place which has the ability to verify for active networks within the surrounding area and can be used effectively to prompt the user for Wi-Fi availability.

Although it has a 2 megapixel camera, it lacks an auto focus function, camera flash, macro mode functions and even a self-portrait mirror, thus producing average photo quality for both still and video footage. Included in the Nokia E65 is a "music player" which supports MP3 and AAC files. It lets you play tracks in shuffle mode. However, it does not have an FM radio.

There is a built-in memory of 50MB. This is expandable up to 2GB. Other features include, voice recording, notepad, integrated hands-free speaker, and talking ringtones.

As a handset intended for the business sector, battery life is of main concern. Nokia E65’s battery can last up to 3 hours of talk time and 11 days of standby time on a fully charged battery. It can also last up to 10 hours when the music player is used non-stop.

Overall, audio quality during calls is good as there were no distortions and muffling. Nokia E65 is functional and comfortable to use. Included in the phone package are user manual, USB cable, and CD driver for connecting the mobile phone to a PC.
