Nokia 6500 Slide Review - Editor's Review
The Nokia 6500 Slide is as slim as its sibling, the Nokia 6500 Classic. The 6500 Slide comes in both black and silver colour casings, with a 5.08-millimeter high colour screen, and a display measuring 33.5 mm x 44.7 mm. This active display enlivened by its 16,000,000 colours.
The full Nokia 6500 Slide handset measures 96.5 x 46.5 x 16.4 millimeters – a size good enough for a 3G-enabled mobile phone. The handset is a lightweight for carrying at 123 grams, yet of a solid quality. It comes with a sleek opening system that reflects the features of other Nokia editions -- the 8600 Luna and 8800 Sirocco.
The Nokia 6500 Slide has a memory of 20 Megabytes, plus 256 Megabytes MicroSD memory card. This memory is expandable to a maximum of 4 Gigabytes. Standard of Nokia’s phones, the 6500 Slide has a battery, phone charger, a stereo headset, USB cable and TV out cable. The 6500 Slide’s battery is of 900mAh capacity, providing a standby time of about 320 hours, including talk time period of 6 hours when fully charged.
The Nokia 6500 Slide has a built-in, imaging-focused camera feature that comes with Carl Zeiss optics. The 3.2-Megapixel camera comes with an 8 x digital zoom for better up close shots. It also has an auto-focus feature which allows clear shots, and a LED flash which captures perfect photo lighting. The LED flash is doubled, ensuring clear pictures regardless of the shot being taken in outdoor or indoor settings. With this sensible feature, taking pictures at night is now possible.
A notable addition to the digital photo and video-capturing mobile phone is the Adobe PhotoShop software. Using Photoshop makes alterations and enhancing of captured photos possible. The photos can be easily printed using the Nokia 6500 Slide’s PictBridge feature.
The Nokia 6500 Slide also houses video playing, recording and streaming capabilities. The built-in video device comes in a 4 x zoom which supports video formats in QCIF, VGA and MPEG4. Through the VGA, per second recording is allowed at 15 frames. The QCIF, meanwhile captures about 30 frames every second. There is a second camera which is used by Nokia 6500 Slide users for a two-way video call.
The 6500 Slide has a push email service, providing users with direct email services that support attachments via their mobile phone. The phone’s multimedia messaging or MMS feature enables easy sharing and recording of videos with other compatible contacts. Internet access anytime is easy and convenient through the phone’s built-in Opera Mini browser.
A 3G quadband cell phone, the Nokia 6500 Slide allows worldwide roaming for its users over GSM 1900, 1800,.900 and 850 and with WCDMA 2100 and 850. Connecting the 6500 Slide with other compatible devices is possible through a USB cable or a micro USB, a 2.5mm AV connector for television or headsets, or Bluetooth for wireless connection to certain devices, such as laptops, personal computers, PDAs, printers and headsets. The Nokia 6500 Slide also supports 3G and EDGE technologies for faster connectivity and more efficient data transfer.
An FM visual radio feature characterizes the Nokia 6500. This feature allows listening to music from radio stations and interacting with onscreen information at the same time. Users may download from the Internet their favourite tracks, or transfer from their computers their preferred music files through the 6500 Slide’s connectivity features. Music formats WMA, eAAC+. MP4, MP3, and AAC are supported by the 6500’s music player. In addition, the phone supports MP3, polyphonic and video ring tones.
Dissatisfied users, however, complain that despite its modern design, the sliding mechanism is not as good as it looks. Some people have pointed out that the camera lens are unprotected, making it prone to scratches and eventual damage. Still others would have preferred the memory card slot not to be hidden by the battery’s cover, and the USB and charger connectors to be located atop the Nokia 6500 Slide.
While Nokia has attempted to make 6500 Slide a better and improved version of the 6500 Classic, reviews maintain the goal has not successfully been met. However, Nokia 6500 slide, being a Finnish feature phone to offer a good camera quality has made a mark of its own in the mobile phone industry.

I have always been a fan of Nokia phones and find them by far the most simple to use. This one is no different. It looks sleek, especially in the black colour (tends to look smaller than the silver one) and the simple slide action makes it easy to use, yet still very slim. It has lots of useful functions on it. I must say too, it would be great if Nokia brought out a new slim flip phone!

I hate to disagree with you all but I have had this phone now for coming up to a year and I cannot stand it. It is so heavy and feels like you're carrying around a brick in your pocket, the screen scratches easily and whenever I put it down on a hard surface it automatically goes back to factory settings. My friend has this problem too so it is not that my phone is faulty, just that it has some serious design flaws. Don't get me wrong it looks great and the little rubber thingy for sliding it up and down is fantastic but I am so annoyed that I still have to wait another 6 months before I can get my upgrade, I am sick of this phone!

I give the Nokia 6500 slide 8/10. I like the ease of unlocking the phone by using the slider. Love the shortcut to silent - great for us office workers! Only drawback is I sometimes have the press the answer button a few times before it connects.

An artful fusion of materials and technology define new mid-range handsets. Nokia 6500 Slide wraps third-generation features in innovative, highly detailed design. The Nokia 6500 Silde is a tribute to high mobile technology and aesthetics. This sleek and stylish phone is easy on pocket without any compromise on features. It comes in silver and black casing and large keys make navigation easy. The Nokia 6500 Slide is one of two 6500 series devices that were announced side by side back in May of this year. Unlike the very thin and simple Nokia 6500 Classic, the Nokia 6500 Slide has a slider form factor of Nokia 6500, stainless steel body work, and an auto-focus digital camera that uses Carl Zeiss lenses. This is a great-looking phone and it’s very easy to use. If you’re looking for something more advanced then check out the Nokia 6120 classic smartphone, which has video calling and some other extra features. But if you want something a bit less complicated that looks great and still has the benefit of 3G downloads then this could be the phone for you.
Designed with maximum usability in mind with large keys and ergonomically correct and balanced proportions, this phone is just what you’re looking for. The Nokia 6500 Slide mobile phone features an enthusiast-quality 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and the ability to easily share pictures, videos and even video calls on a television. The Nokia 6500 Slide brings unsurpassed levels of imaging and sharing and delivers a refined tactile experience with its elegant brushed stainless steel finish and smooth slide mechanism. Nokia 6500 slide has dual-band 3G support in addition to quad-band GSM support, Nokia 6500 slide has a built-in 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera, and a solid media player. Nokia 6500 slide is also quite attractive and uses a QVGA resolution display that can show up to 16 million different color shades. Other features of the new Nokia slider include 2.2 inch color screen with QVGA resolution, dual LED flash, 8x digital zoom, TV-Out, 2nd camera, music player and FM tuner. Measurements of the Nokia 6500 slide are 96.5×46.5×16.4mm.
Fashioned to stand apart from the crowd, the Nokia 6500 slide incorporates a number of design elements not often found in a mid-range device. Ensuring that the sophisticated brushed stainless steel body retains its timeless beauty, a unique hard coating helps to prevent scuffs, scratches, and even fingerprints. Precision engineering of the slide mechanism means that the Nokia 6500 slide feels solid in the hand, yet moves with a smooth, fluid action to create a decidedly upscale user impression. The 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics found in the Nokia 6500 slide marks the first time that mid-range camera phone consumers have been able to experience the outstanding imaging capability of Carl Zeiss optics. The addition of autofocus, a dual LED flash and 8x digital zoom optimizes the Nokia 6500 slide for creating high-caliber images. Using the speed of 3G technology, these images and videos can be quickly shared with friends around the world, while the TV-out jack allows them to be instantly viewed on any television with standard RCA inputs. The TV-out feature can also be used to allow an entire group of people to simultaneously enjoy the fun of video calling. The Nokia 6500 slide has a micro USB connector to connect to a PC and you can also charge the handset via this connection. With support for Bluetooth 2.0 you can also listen to your favourite tunes wirelessly with a compatible Bluetooth headset. There may only be 20MB of memory on board, but Nokia supplies the phone with a 256MB microSD card that sits in a slot under the stainless steel battery cover. The slot can actually accept cards of up to 4GB in size and you'll certainly want to add some extra storage space to take advantage of the phone's music player. Although the music player and camera are good, the most surprising feature of all on this handset is perhaps its TV output. In the box you'll find an AV lead that connects to the headphone socket at the top of the phone. Hook it up to your TV and the phone's display will be mirrored on your telly. You can then use your TV to view photos and videos or to listen to music. It's a cutting edge feature and works surprisingly well. The phone's battery life is also good as you can get around six hours of talk time from it and the reception and call quality are also very impressive.
