Weighing 134 grams, the Blackberry 8700g is a fashionable and functional pocket PC. The Blackberry 8700g exudes elegance and mixes it with a business-like approach. This is an upgraded version of the Blackberry line, taking with it the physical attractiveness that its counterparts like the 7105t, which has a flashy silver edging. The Blackberry 8700g’s keys, which can be in QWERTZ, AZERTY and QWERTY modes, allow users to type using both thumbs.

As compared with the original version, the BlackBerry 8700g shed off some grams, making it more pocket-able and lightweight to carry. The Blackberry 8700g’s general layout, which resembles the thumbwheel, is a carried-over feature from its original model. Its wide screen is brilliantly vivid, with a stunning contrast of 65, 536 colours in 320 x 240 pixels.

Compared with the older version of the iconic Blackberry, the 8700g is enhanced in terms of resolution; hence an improvement in its icons is relatively apparent. The 8700g also has dedicated keys for mute, send and end keys, making it a user-friendly device. Its imaging perks include a screensaver and a wallpaper with a gamut of designs to choose from. This is a good way to customise the Blackberry 8700g handset and make it a standout in terms of its appearance.

The Blackberry 8700g handset is bigger in size than other handsets mainly because it is, in fact, more than a mobile phone. It has been called the mobile office. The BlackBerry 8700g’s manufacturers integrated the Xscale technology from Intel processor. Intel’s Xscale is also used in other smartphones and pocket PCs, and has recently powered the Treo 700w lineup and the Palm Treo 650. The 8700g is part of the BlackBerry 8700 Series, also consisting of the 8700f, the 8700v, the 8707v and the 8707g.

In addition, the Blackberry 8700g takes the standard Smartphone features that Blackberry users expect. A quadband mobile phone, it offers SMS, MMS, instant messaging and email, which supports attachments. The Blackberry 8700g has a predictive text input feature for text messaging. The model has a dedicated “send” button used for sending messages. This dedicated key, users have said, is an ultimate convenience for avid text users.

The Blackberry 8700g’s ringtones are in MP3 and polyphonic formats.

The Blackberry 8700 also allows better management of data in the mobile phone. For one, its phone book allows the storage of contact details and contact numbers conveniently. A memo pad is also one of the most practical 8700 features. This toll allows inputting of daily tasks or reminders in an effort to organise a busy day.

The Blackberry 8700 supports a feature called “personal information management” or PIM. Moreover, users may utilize the voice or speed dial features for quicker and more accurate phone calls. A conference feature is also an 8700g highlight. The conference call feature allows up to six contact parties to the phone-to-phone meeting.

The Blackberry 8700g also supports Bluetooth, allowing users to connect the handset to compatible device. This wireless connectivity attribute can be used for transferring or downloading files or data. Aside from using Bluetooth, users can also transfer data through the USB cable. Its battery lasts up to four hours of talk time and 450 hours of standby time when fully charged. Its internal Memory is currently pegged at 64 Megabytes, and functions on SDRAM technology.

For entertainment purposes, there are embedded games in the Blackberry 8700g that users may take advantage of. The mobile phone also supports downloadable games, which may be transferred to the mobile phone through compatible devices, in terms of formats.

The mobile phone is of a quadband network, covering GSMs 850, 900, 1800 and GSM 1900a. The unit is run by the EDGE technology. Because of this, many Blackberry 8700g users enjoy optimum roaming between various countries.

The 8700g also houses a built-in Internet browser in an aim to provide fast and full Internet experience. The 8700g has a tethered modernist feature that allows its users to connect the unit to their laptop or PC. This capability is most useful during a user’s travels and for people who want to use their laptops or PCs to download files at broadband speeds, but want a handier device. The mobile phone also flaunts its fast connectivity, which is brought by its advanced Intel technology.
