About O2

O2, headquartered in Slough, is owned by Telefonica Europe plc. Originally launched as BT Cellnet, O2 sprung from BT Group in November 2001 with its new name. O2 finished 2007 with over 20 million subscribers.

O2 sponsors the English and Irish rugby teams and the Millenium Dome in Greenwich is now officially called 'The O2' following the acquisition of the naming rights in May 2005.

O2 started offering ADSL broadband internet in 2006 after acquiring the broadband provider Be Unlimited. In the summer of 2007, O2 became the exclusive network operator for the Apple iPhone in the UK.
