A creation by HTC, the T-Mobile G1 has a striking resemblance to the look and features of other handsets in HTC's line-up of Pocket PC Smartphones, including HTC Touch Pro and HTC TyTN II. Bearing the dimensions of 117 x 53 x 15 millimetres and weighing 159 grams, the T-Mobile G1 captures the interest of observers because of its slightly angled bottom section. The handset is available in black and white colours, and can be integrated with polyphonic and real music ringtones.
Operating on a sliding mechanism, the T-Mobile G1 is a solid handset with a soft-touch finish on its back that makes it a comfortable handheld device. The T-Mobile G1 comes with a QWERTY keyboard, which is similar to T-Mobile's Sidekick. It flaunts an 65K LCD display screen that measures 81 millimetres and works on a 320 x 480-pixel resolution. The touch-sensitive LCD of the handset is capacitive, making it responsive only to the touch of a finger, and not of a stylus and other similar objects. The T-Mobile G1 also works on haptic feedback system.
Sliding the T-Mobile G1 will reveal the screen orientation that switches automatically from portrait mode to landscape. This way, users can view the LCD screen horizontally while typing in text messages through the QWERTY keys, and opt for the vertical mode of the handset for its other features.
As a quadband mobile phone, the T-Mobile G1 works on the GSM frequencies of 1900, 1800, 900 and 850, and HSDPA 2100. The T-Mobile G1 has an interface that runs on Google's operating system, the Android. Additionally, the handset has a trackball key for menu navigation. As a 3G-enabled mobile phone that operates on HSDPA technology, the T-Mobile G1 is highly capable of multitasking.
Browsing the Internet is possible with the built-in HTML Web browser of the T-Mobile G1, which is compatible with Google Search and YouTube. The handset has WiFi support feature that allows users to access the Internet in various hotspots or in a local WLAN. Connecting with other compatible devices to transfer or share files and data can be done with the T-Mobile G1's support for USB cable connectivity. The handset also supports Bluetooth wireless connection that effectuates device-connectivity at a distance of up to 10 metres. The mobile phone also comes with a GPS or Global Positioning System receiver that assists users in finding directions in various locations.
The T-Mobile G1 supports the basic messaging services of SMS or text and MMS or multimedia messaging. It also supports e-mail clients in POP and IMAP servers that allow users to send and receive e-mails with attachments. Specifically, the mobile phone supports Gmail and Google Talk. The T-Mobile G1 also enables users to communicate with their contacts through chat, thanks to its support for Instant Messaging.
As its organiser features, the T-Mobile G1 has a vibrating alert option, a calendar and an alarm clock to assist its busy users. Similarly, the handset comes with a speakerphone, voice dialling and voice recording features for better management of incoming and outgoing calls.
Photo-loving users will be pleased with the T-Mobile G1's built-in 3.2-Megapixel camera with an auto-focus feature that allows users to better capture their subjects. The mobile phone has a dedicated camera button for ease of use. The T-Mobile G1 is equipped with a music player that supports popular music formats of OGG Vorbis, WAV, MIDI, WMA, AMR, AAC, M4A and MP3. Users of the T-Mobile G1 will be entertained with the pre-installed Pacman game. In addition, the mobile phone allows users to download games that they want to enjoy right on the handset.
The T-Mobile G1 comes with an installed ROM of 256 Megabytes, and RAM of 192 Megabytes. The handset's memory capacity can be expanded using a microSDHC memory card. The T-Mobile G1 is powered by a Li-ion battery that offers a talk time of 5 hours, and a standby time of 150 hours when fully charged.
The T-Mobile G1 disappoints some of its users due to its lack of 3.5-millimetre headphone jack, video recording and stereo Bluetooth support. While the sliding mechanism runs smooth, it tends to create a creaking sound after a few uses, other users say. Another issue that dissatisfied users pointed out is the mobile phone's awkwardly angled bottom section that makes it inconvenient to type messages.

The deal with t-mobile and this phone is if your an internet user and who wouldn't be if given the chance to browse for free is unbeatable, you have 3 ways to navigate the phone, normal keypad, qwerty key pad and neat little track ball. I've got big hands and I could use the qwerty keyboard ok, its so easy to text and to send emails, the screen is nice, big and clear, you can change fonts so even if you forget your glasses you can still read the text and navigate your way round the screen.
Theres loads of stuff on line with the android software, google maps etc, you can sit and browse for hours co's you can it's free.
the bad points are there's no modem in the phone and yet its advertised as the internet phone for everything. even t mobile staff will tell you its got a modem in it, and the screen looks like it will scratch easily if you don't take care.
