Samsung U600 Review - Editor's Review
Glossy and classy, the U600 is part of Samsung’s sleek Ultra Edition II collection, which members include the Samsung U100 version 5.9, the Samsung U3 version 9.6 and the version Samsung U700 12.1. The Samsung U600 can be acquired in an array of vibrant shades, which include garnet red, sapphire blue, copper, gold and platinum metal colours. Even when in frequent travels, users will enjoy the Samsung U600, as it is a quad-band handset that covers GSMs 1900, 1800, 900 and 850, depending on the mobile phone user’s network provider.
The Samsung U600 operates as a sliding mobile phone that is widely reputed for being slim at 103.5 x 49.3 x 10.9 millimetres, and very light and handy at only 81 grams. To reveal a contemporary look, the Samsung created its U600’s keypad with a metal-etched design. When the sliding mechanism of the Samsung U600 is in a closed position, users can utilize the handset’s navigation tool and a set of externally located selection keys.
Quality viewing is offered by the 55.8-millimetre LCD screen of the Samsung U600. With a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, the Samsung U600’s colour display is illuminated by roughly 262,000 colours. To make the mobile phone more personalised, users may use screensavers and wallpapers. Pre-installed or downloaded MP3 and polyphonic ring tones may also be integrated onto the Samsung U600.
Convenient transfers to compatible devices are offered by the Samsung U600’s wireless Bluetooth support. The mobile phone also has a USB option for data transfers in reliable cable connection. The mobile phone is complete with the EDGE technology which ensures high-speed transfers. As a modern handset, the Samsung U600 also offers its users an enjoyable Internet experience with its WAP 2.0 XHTML Web browser.
The Samsung U600 has easy-to-use messaging services including text or SMS, enhanced messaging or EMS, as well as multimedia messaging or MMS for more fun-filled communication. Inputting text messages is easier with the Samsung U600’s predictive text support. Additionally, users of the Samsung U600 will find the handset useful as it can function as an on-the-go computer, offering an on-device email service.
Topping the Samsung U600’s rich features is its built-in digital camera that allows on-the-go handset users to take capture-worthy memories anytime. The Samsung U600’s 3.2-Megapixel camera assures quality still photograph outputs with its auto focus, flash and digital zoom features.
There is more to the Samsung U600’s integrated digital camera than merely supporting quality still snapshots, as it also allows video footages. Moreover, users can adjust the photo and video settings of the Samsung U600 to ensure a perfect finish for still pictures and videos.
The Samsung U600 can pass for a stand-alone music player as it allows users to experience quality tunes from their handset. The Samsung U600’s music player supports practically all popular audio formats, including WMA, MP3, WMA, eAAC and AAC. However, the Samsung U600 does not end with giving users optimum listening enjoyment. The handset also assists music lovers in organising their tracks with its music management system. The Samsung U600’s audio support is reinforced by a built-in FM radio through which users can listen to their well-loved tracks on-air.
To keep business-oriented users organised, the Samsung U600 offers a host of features for practical use, such as a to-do reminder, a calendar, and a clock that reflects world time. Additionally, the Samsung U600 can function as a mobile stopwatch, a timer, an alarm, a currency converter and a handy calculator. As extra features, the mobile phone also comes with a caller ID, a voice memo and a vibration alert option.
The Samsung U600 further emphasizes its support for entertainment and fun with its embedded games in Java, among other formats. Gamers may also download online games to the mobile phone.
For data, photos or videos that need to be stored instantly, the Samsung U600 is built-in with 60 Megabytes of internal memory. The handset’s internal storage capacity can be further expanded with a MicroSD type of memory card. Also, the handset offers its users talk time of 3.5 hours, and standby time of up to 240 hours.
Users attest that while the Samsung U600 essentially works as it promises, its outright downside is its camera’s flash which does not provide enough light especially in very dark environments.

I have never had such an annoying mobile. Now after 14 months of stuggling with it, it is freezing all the time when I'm texting and seems to have lost the capability to store words in T9, having lost all the ones I previously put in it. Useless customer service at T-Mobile and Samsung as they are not really willing to help and hardly seem to believe you when you say what's wrong. A few days ago I was promised an envelope in the post from Samsung to send the phone back. It hasn't arrived yet. Also, they said it'll take up to 28 days to fix and I haven't been offered a loan phone. Considering I have an 18 month contract I think it's a cheek. If you rent something you normally get it repaired for free. I think it's such poor service and so frustrating. I would have gone for a Nokia but was kind of pushed into taking the U600 and it does look and feel lovely but that's about it's only good points.

Do not buy this phone from orange. Their policy for repairs is disgusting. My phone was brought in march and has already broke 3times. My screen flickers, freezes, turns it self of flashes all the colours of the rainbow and eventually turned black and was unusable.I feel that it should have been recalled. Getting your money back for this phone seems to be more or less impossible.

This phone is terrible and the Orange/Samsung service is even worse. It first started cutting out back in Feb and I got it fixed under the warranty, so it was fine for a bit, but then it began flipping the picture 6 weeks ago and cutting out, changing colour, etc. the works. Orange couldn't offer me a loan phone (all their grand total of 3 loan phones were out) so even for their extortionate £15 fee for fixing my broken phone I couldn't even have a phone. At all. The only option, acording to them, is to have an expensive upgrade or buy a new pay-as-you-go phone! For a problem that has nothing to do with me and that they fixed before! This phone is junk. I'm getting in touch with Trading Standards as it's clearly not fit for purpose. If I could give it a lower score than 1 I would do. Don't buy this phone. It's worse than useless.

I have had this phone 21 months now...took a second contract for 18 months after first year contract ran out. I hate to say it, but a couple of months back it started freezing as i was ringing someone, then it froze when sending texts. Recently it's just started to play up on calls now, think it's the slide action that's gone with it now! I can ring out and listen to people on other end if i hold the slide half way down the key pad with my finger! Otherwise i hear nothing, and they just hear me talking. Not insured as don't get a like for like phone! I won't be getting another one of these now. I was happy with it at first, but all these reviews just goes to show there is problems with the phone.

I have had this phone for over a year and i have never had any problems. It can be annoying as its very easy to call someone by mistake as the phone is so sensitive. Its also so so difficult to put the phone on loud speaker when driving that its not even worth risking trying. theres no function so you can answer it and its straightaway on loud speaker not that i know of anyway?
Another thing i dont like is why doesnt the phone tell you the time and date you sent a message? this isnt displayed on sent items .

I got my u600 as a birthday gift just under a year back. It was working perfectly well until a few months back. The phone kept on freezing. The sound went...couldn't hear people when they called. Now the screen goes multi-coloured/blacks out. It even switches on/off by itself. I am fed up with the phone but I don't want to repair it if it'll cost a fortune. I have given it a 2/10 because I LOVE THIS PHONE because it was a gift. But it doesn't even last for a year. I think I will be sticking to Nokia's from now on! DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!

I have had this phone a year past in June. Nice phone when it works. Recently I have discovered that it isn't a problem with the screen whenever it goes back to front upside down and sometimes black out. It's actualy the ribbon that connects the key pad to the screen because I purchased a screen thinking that was the problem. So my friend opened the phone and saw the tear on the ribbon. So it seems that the ribbon tears on these phones after about 12 months or maybe sooner depending on slide usage. I got a ribbon online for under £4.00 including postage (Not easy to fit ribbon, delicate opperation). The phone is now as good as new. So don't throw your phone in the bin just yet get a ribbon and it might last you another year

But it seems to stop working after about 6 months of purchase. The screen is very easily breakable even putting it in your back pocket is a no no! The delicate screen is a major let down to this phone. But i still loved it, the pink one on o2 is the best to have =] if you wanna reli waste your money that bad

This phone is a no-buy no-brainer. I'm on my third handset now..
Handset 1. After about a month, it developed the old "screen back to front and upside down" problem that people have reported here. So, that went back to Orange and I got a replacement.
Handset 2. Again, after about a month, the screen looked as if it had a diagonal crack in it. Above the "crack" was unreadable, below the "crack" was OK. Couldn't read text messages so back it went to Orange.
Handset 3. So far, so good -except- the battery life on this one seems to be much less than the other two handsets I've had. It ran out unexpectedly this morning so I am now without a phone for the rest of today.
If I get any more problems with it, I'll either revert to using my old but reliable Nokia 6230i, or refuse another U600 and insist on getting something that actually works for longer than a month.
All in all. Don't even think about buying this phone. Not a good move.

All of a sudden out of the blue, the phone would not switch on. Plugging in the battery made no difference. The phone was powerless. It has now been sent away for repair at Samsung. It would appear that after a year of use, this phone gives up! I loved this phone and 2 weeks ago, I would have given the phone a much higher score. However it started flickering over a week ago and yesterday the screen buttons stopped working. The keypad works but that is no good becasue you can type in a number but then you can't call. I can read messages. I can't do anything. I can't even call orange to say I have a problem. I really need to use my phone today and I can't!!!!!!!!!!! First i loved this phone, i have always had samsungs. BUT this one is sooooo annoying! I have just sent it off today for the FOURTH time to repair the same problem. They have changed the whole handset twice so the prob is obviously with the technology of the phone. The screen and all the text appears upside down, back to front, different colours, goes completely black or completely white and just freezes.........it does my head in!!!! And this has been in the space of three months. I would not recommend this phone to anyone! The man in the repair shop said that it was a common problem with the samsung u600 and lots of people bring them in time after time with screen problems. Dont get this phone. I will be changing mine x

at first, i loved the phone, ive had it nearly a year now, but over the past few weeks my phone has been freezing when i text, and switches itself off. ive noticed tho, this can be solved by taking off predictive texting, i know we shouldnt have to do it, but it does solve the problem. i will be taking my phone to the shop over the weekend to see what else can be done because i prefer to use predictive texting!

Like many others I though it was a really great phone.
Now I don't. it turns on with the display not only upside down but a mirror image. A slight tap on the screen & the display disappears altogther until its switched off & on again & then its 50/50 whether the display will be the right way round.

When I first got this mobile, it really impressed me with the desing, slim and sleek. The touch button was a major prob, and phone is slow, and camer is awful, and during txt msg its cuts off. and sometimes during call. but nothing major happend until now. i talked to someone recently, and my suddenly got so heated up, i thouht it would be for the best. my phones jammed, the screen got blurry, it lost its color. i try to restart, and i wont work. I just died. i have tried everything there is to try, and honeslt i am fed up with this crappy phone. DONT BUT THIS ONE. ITS EXPENSIVE AND AWFUL.

Wish I'd read these reviews before buying this phone in January! Haven't had any problems with texting, but touch sensitive buttons are a pain and I'm now having trouble with the phone switching itself off and reverting back to factory settings. I'm too afraid to turn the phone off cos I have to customise it every time I switch it back on. The camera's too fiddly and long-winded, and so far I haven't taken a decent shot! The radio's good though, and the keypad's numbers/letters are large enough for me to see without having to put reading glasses on!
I would never buy this phone again, which is a shame cos I've had Samsungs previously and have always been very pleased. Judging from the countless reviews and forums on the internet, you'd think Samsung would've withdrawn this phone.

Samsung U600 Blue is a very pretty, stylish and sophisticated handset which comes with a slide opening mechanism. This lightweight slim device offers an impressive range of features that include a Document Viewer for opening email attachments, has touch sensitive soft keys and a four-way navigation key which is very easy to use. The 3.2 megapixel camera comes with auto focus and LED flash. You can stay connected across the world with the quad band technology. The battery life is not good as it needs to be charged minimum every two days! One must look after this delicate handset as it gets scratched quite easily!

This phone is absolutely AWFUL. It freezes when I try and send texts, freezes so I can't even use it at all, and just generally makes me want to throw it on the railway tracks. STEER CLEAR. We ought to have free new phones given to us by Samsung as compensation for their awful product.

First and foremost in all my time as a mobile owner I've had Nokias - since the 1611 - and worked my way through Nokia upgrades. But... I decided that this fone was really stylish, was slim and lightweight and wasn't too bulky for my suit.
Gotta say this phone is the worst I've ever had - it might look the part - but it freezes mid way through texts or emailing - and is so frustrating! I know of no solution to fix this "freeze" and to put it mildly - I HATE THIS PHONE !!!!! I'm glad there are others out there who also have experienced this trouble because when I took my first handset back to the Orange shop (I've had 3 so far) the guy said that he wasn't aware of any problem...
hmmmm......
He will be after I point him in the direction of this website!
This has put me off Samsung handsets now as well - maybe harsh - but this phone has let me down too often.

THIS PHONE SUCKS! I've had problems with it almost from the off (less than 3 months). It freezes, switches itself off, won't retain some personalised settings, the camera is SLOW beyond belief, the touch buttons are a MAJOR pain, the T9 text is a nightmare. Need I go on.
DON'T GET THIS PHONE!!

i thought this was a good phone when i got it, apart from not having 3G so internet is slow. After 2 weeks it started switching itself off and freezing during text messages. i got it rebooted with new software and lost internet and multimedia messages. I maanged to get internet back after copying my wifes settings who has same phone but no luck with multimedia. its been 3 months since it got wiped and has started freezing again, hence this review. my wife who has same phone is having the same problems. it may look good but it wont do the basic functions! Very Poor

I agree, the phone does have issues as there apears to be a lot of these that have this problem. I had the same phone and sent it back and was given another one. Its doing the same thing. I reset it and now seems to work fine. But I should need not to reset this phone to solve the issue. Fact is the issue should not be happening. As for your internet and media messaging loss. This is no issue to your phone this is within every handset that is new as you had run your phone through a full reset. All you need to do is register your phone to recieve WAP and MMS! Like any new phone.

When I first got this fone I really liked it, it looks good and it nice an light. After 2 weeks however it started to turn itself off, it started freezing when I tried to text and then switching off and also the numbers in my phone book were not showing properly. I got a brand new U600 replacement and now, after 2 weeks, the same problems are happening again! I will be returning it today and asking for a different model as I think this fone has some major technical issues and most of them will be the same.

I have had nothing but problems with this phone from the start. I was veered away by the orange rep from the phones i wanted and was told to get this phone. Initially i thought it looked great and had some good features. About 2 weeks after receiveing the phone, whilst texting my phone shuts itslef of, this went on and on until i could not send texts at all. The camera is hard to use beacuse of the slide and does not have good lighting. Eventually after 5 weeks my handset has been reset and my texts now wrok, but i have lost internet access and media messaging.
