The i550, another sleek mobile phone in Samsung's technologically packed lineup of handsets, is clad in colours black or silver. It is a handy and slim mobile phone that measures 115 x 53 x 13.8 millimeters and weighs 100 grams. It flaunts a TFT display screen with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution that supports over 262,000 brilliant colours. The Samsung i550 has MP3 polyphonic ringtones. Customizable wallpapers and themes allow users of the Samsung i550 to personalize their mobile phones.

The 1550 joins the Samsung i300, Samsung i400, Samsung i450 and Samsung i600 -- all belonging to Samsung’s i-range of Smartphones. The Samsung 1550 is able to store files and data of up to 150 Megabytes, which users may opt to expand to a maximum of 4 Gigabytes through a MicroSD memory card.

Adding to its stunning physical appearance are its built-in features that are said to be luxurious. For one, the Samsung i550 works over a Symbian v9.2 operating system with pre-installed GPS navigation technology. Mainly because of the Symbian OS, the Google maps feature has been installed. The Samsung i550 also supports viewing of documents and files in most popular formats through a document viewer.

As the Samsung i550 is powered by the EDGE technology, it allows faster data transfer rates that are thrice of what GPRS offers. The mobile phone's messaging services include SMS text, enhanced messaging service, multimedia message and email client service. Its text messaging service operates with a predictive text feature. Calling and answering incoming calls are convenient with the Samsung i550's handsfree speaker phone device that comes with the mobile phone kit.

While it may seem to be packed with contemporary features and supported by advanced technology, the Samsung i550 houses the basic essentials of most modernist mobile phones, including an organiser, a phone book, a To-Do option, a calendar, a scheduler, a clock with alarm selections, a calculator and a currency converter.

Connectivity is fully enabled by the Samsung 1550, through USB and Bluetooth, allowing file and data sharing or transfers to and from compatible computers, laptops or printers. The Samsung i550 operates on 3G HSDPA making it a multitasking mobile phone that supports high-speed data transfer, video calls and Web browsing.

The Samsung i550 is a triband mobile phone that supports GSMs 900, 1800 and 1900 networks, keeping traveling users in Europe and in most parts of the United States connected with their friends or family. The Samsung 1550 also has a pre-installed Web browser, allowing Internet access through the mobile phone. The pre-installed WAP 2.0 XHTML and HTML browser makes Internet browsing through the Samsung i550 convenient.

Despite its heavy inclination toward being a business mobile phone, the Samsung i550 keeps entertainment features as among its assets. The Samsung i550 allows music-loving users to tune in to their favourite music stations through the integrated FM radio, plus a built-in music player to boot. Additionally, the Samsung i550 allows video recording and photo capturing through its built-in 3 megapixels digital camera. Moreover, the Samsung i550 houses a second VGA camera that carries 3G video calling. It also allows viewing of files in flash multimedia format through its flash player.

The Samsung i550's battery allows its users four hours of talk time, or approximately 312 hours of standby time.

While users have been generally satisfied of the features that the Samsung i550 offers, some owners have found the mobile phone to be too quirky - specifically with its features. Other reviews also complain that the Samsung i500's user interface may take some time to familiarize, especially for people who are not too keen on mobile technology.
