Weighing 165 grams with fitted battery and measuring 102 x 51 x 18.1 millimetres, the Serra is part of the XDA lineup of mobile phones from O2, alongside the Ignito model. It comes with functionalities that have been modeled and enhanced from O2's Orbit handsets. The mobile phone sports a black exterior, which extends to its buttons and external ports.

Powered by the Qualcomm 528MHz chip, the O2 XD Serra works on Windows Mobile version 6.1 Professional. It is highlighted by a touch-sensitive TFT LCD screen that works on TouchFlo 3D technology. It measures 71.12 millimetres and showcases a 480 x 640 VGA resolution. The handset's applications may be browsed and accessed through the touch of a finger, but its start-up kit comes with a stylus.

Tucked behind its display touchscreen is a full 5-row QWERTY keyboard with tiny keys that measure six millimetres. The mobile phone works on slide mechanism. The display screen orientation can be automatically switched from portrait to landscape mode and vise-versa when the QWERTY keyboard slides out.

Working over triband technology, the O2 XDA Serra is a 3G HSDPA mobile phone. Accordingly, users can expect the handset to be efficient in multitasking.

For one, it allows users to access the Internet using the Opera Mobile Web browser. Owing to the Web access it offers, the mobile phone supports the Push Email system. Users can connect their handset to any LAN in nearby hotspots, thanks to the Wi-Fi technology that the Serra supports. Similarly, sharing files and data through connecting with compatible devices is also possible with the mobile phone. The handset supports USB connectivity, which allows users to utilise the built-in Microsoft ActiveSync feature that synchronises information data and specific files. It also offers wireless Bluetooth v. 2.0 with EDR as a connectivity option.

The O2 XD Serra is reputed among business-oriented users for offering various desktop features in a sleek yet portable and handy mobile device. The handset comes with a built-in GPS receiver, but no GPS software has been installed in it. In addition, the O2 XD Serra comes with a Document Reader that supports a wide range of traveler-friendly software, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word in their Mobile versions. With the Document Reader, users can read or edit their documents. The handset is also pre-installed with the WorldCard Mobile application. Furthermore, it offers its users text and multimedia messaging services.

The O2 XDA Serra also passes for a portable assistant. It comes with a set of organiser tools that include a digital clock, a calendar, an LED flash light and a phone book. Users can also access call history and call logs using the quick links provided in the handset's Windows Mobile and menu-based interface. A good-performing speaker is also built in the camera for hassle-free calls.

The entertainment aspect of the mobile phone comes in the form of a built-in 3.2-Megapixel camera. Users who enjoy taking instant photos will appreciate the camera that is equipped with the autofocus feature to ensure more precise photo shots. Listening to favourite stations will become a hobby with the Serra's integrated FM radio. The feature comes complete with RDS that offers music listeners news, sports and other information from radio stations.

The O2 XDA Serra is equipped with a flash or ROM memory of 512 Megabytes and RAM memory of 288 Megabytes. Nevertheless, the handset is applauded by satisfied users for its array of functionalities that are characterised by MSWindows features. These include a fast processor, a hi-resolution touchscreen and a slide QWERTY keyboard that serve as improvements to O2's previous models. The O2 XDA Serra is said to have a mixed and matched a look that is comparable with that of Blackberry Storm, with various internal features similar to Apple iPhone.
