Nokia 6500 Slide is as slim as its sibling, the
Nokia 6500 Classic. The 6500 Slide comes in both black and silver colour casings, with a 5.08-millimeter high colour screen, and a display measuring 33.5 mm x 44.7 mm. This active display enlivened by its 16,000,000 colours.
The full Nokia 6500 Slide handset measures 96.5 x 46.5 x 16.4 millimeters - a size good enough for a 3G-enabled mobile phone. The handset is a lightweight for carrying at 123 grams, yet of a solid quality. It comes with a sleek opening system that reflects the features of other Nokia editions -- the
8600 Luna and
8800 Sirocco.
The Nokia 6500 Slide has a memory of 20 Megabytes, plus 256 Megabytes MicroSD memory card. This memory is expandable to a maximum of 4 Gigabytes. Standard of Nokia's phones, the 6500 Slide has a battery, phone charger, a stereo headset, USB cable and TV out cable. The 6500 Slide's battery is of 900mAh capacity, providing a standby time of about 320 hours, including talk time period of 6 hours when fully charged.
The Nokia 6500 Slide has a built-in, imaging-focused camera feature that comes with Carl Zeiss optics. The 3.2-Megapixel camera comes with an 8 x digital zoom for better up close shots. It also has an auto-focus feature which allows clear shots, and a LED flash which captures perfect photo lighting. The LED flash is doubled, ensuring clear pictures regardless of the shot being taken in outdoor or indoor settings. With this sensible feature, taking pictures at night is now possible.
A notable addition to the digital photo and video-capturing mobile phone is the Adobe PhotoShop software. Using Photoshop makes alterations and enhancing of captured photos possible. The photos can be easily printed using the Nokia 6500 Slide's PictBridge feature.
The Nokia 6500 Slide also houses video playing, recording and streaming capabilities. The built-in video device comes in a 4 x zoom which supports video formats in QCIF, VGA and MPEG4. Through the VGA, per second recording is allowed at 15 frames. The QCIF, meanwhile captures about 30 frames every second. There is a second camera which is used by Nokia 6500 Slide users for a two-way video call.
The 6500 Slide has a push email service, providing users with direct email services that support attachments via their mobile phone. The phone's multimedia messaging or MMS feature enables easy sharing and recording of videos with other compatible contacts. Internet access anytime is easy and convenient through the phone's built-in Opera Mini browser.
A 3G quadband cell phone, the Nokia 6500 Slide allows worldwide roaming for its users over GSM 1900, 1800,.900 and 850 and with WCDMA 2100 and 850. Connecting the 6500 Slide with other compatible devices is possible through a USB cable or a micro USB, a 2.5mm AV connector for television or headsets, or Bluetooth for wireless connection to certain devices, such as laptops, personal computers, PDAs, printers and headsets. The Nokia 6500 Slide also supports 3G and EDGE technologies for faster connectivity and more efficient data transfer.
An FM visual radio feature characterizes the Nokia 6500. This feature allows listening to music from radio stations and interacting with onscreen information at the same time. Users may download from the Internet their favourite tracks, or transfer from their computers their preferred music files through the 6500 Slide's connectivity features. Music formats WMA, eAAC+. MP4, MP3, and AAC are supported by the 6500's music player. In addition, the phone supports MP3, polyphonic and video ring tones.
Dissatisfied users, however, complain that despite its modern design, the sliding mechanism is not as good as it looks. Some people have pointed out that the camera lens are unprotected, making it prone to scratches and eventual damage. Still others would have preferred the memory card slot not to be hidden by the battery's cover, and the USB and charger connectors to be located atop the Nokia 6500 Slide.
While Nokia has attempted to make 6500 Slide a better and improved version of the
6500 Classic, reviews maintain the goal has not successfully been met. However, Nokia 6500 slide, being a Finnish feature phone to offer a good camera quality has made a mark of its own in the mobile phone industry.
