Nokia 2610 Review - Editor's Review
Before the mobile phones around the world have advanced to the coloured phones with advanced FM radio and MP3 systems along side with digital cameras, Bluetooth, USB and infrared ports, there were functional phones. These mobile phones weren’t really primitive but they lack features that are available with the phones that we have today. These functional phones are widely used by people who are into simplicity and they are categorized as mid-end phones.
Nokia 2610 was one of the phones, which started off the N-series of Nokia released at Chongqing, China at the Nokia Experience Mobility 2006. As expected with a low-end phone, it doesn’t have Bluetooth or infrared connectivity. It doesn’t come with a USB cable so if you want to transfer file to this phone, you will need to purchase a compatible cable. With a dimension of 104 mm by 43 mm by 18 mm, and its weight at 91 grams some phone users complain that the phone is too small and can be difficult to find when you have a big handbag which contains a lot of things. Whether the phone’s size is an advantage or a disadvantage is a matter of perception since some users feel that the phone is just right for the pocket.
The phone is covered with velvety plastic standard black and brown, most phone users say that it is pleasant to the touch. This rubberized finish was also intended to prevent dust, and for better grip, but other than that the phone is extremely lacking, even with basic features such as texting. A lot have said that this phone is quite annoying especially when you are texting since you would undergo about eight selections before you could actually start texting your message. Aside from this, composing a message is difficult because of the tight keypad. It has a CSTN (Color Super Twist Nematic) with 65K colors and it displays 128 by 128 pixels. Users can also customize screensavers, themes and wallpapers. Unfortunately, the screen is too dark when under direct sunlight or even with poor lighting conditions, making it difficult to use in such cases. Several users also claim that the audio of the phone is really poor and it can be difficult to hear the voice of your caller. This is especially inconvenient for old people or those with poor hearing. When it comes to the speakers, however, the phone has excellent sound quality and is perfect for listening to your favorite songs.
Despite the flaws of Nokia 2610 it also has a lot of features that are noteworthy. Since the Nokia 2610 is a product of Nokia, it is pretty sturdy that could last quite a few drops and it won’t break that easily. The Nokia 2610 also has a battery life that lasts in about 300 hours in standard time and 3 hours in talk time that seems to be very long, compared to others. This mobile phone is a polyphonic phone and it could also download some MP3 music with its GPRS connection. This phone is really affordable and if you were just looking for a mobile phone that would be very well connected and would really be useful in your everyday living then the Nokia 2610 is right for you.
Other features packed with the Nokia 2610 include 300 phonebook entries and it could record 10 dialed numbers, 10 calls received and 10 calls missed calls. Added to these is 3 MB shared memory. It could send messages via short messaging service or known as SMS. The Nokia 2610 has the capability to send emails and to access instant messages. It has a WAP 2.0/xHTML browser and it also has games such as the Coin Flipping and you could download a few more. It comes in black or brown and it has major languages from European and Asian countries. The best thing about this phone is that it has excellent battery life at 13 hours of talk time and 300 hours of standby time.
In sum, the Nokia 2610 is not a hi-tech mobile phone but it is pretty functional with GPRS capability. Unfortunately, a lot of users claim that it is pretty difficult to use especially for texting. It is, however a good basic phone and is much more durable than the newer phones than what are coming out of the market today. For a phone that has Internet connectivity, it is considered most affordable.
