LG Cookie Editor's Review

2 Jan 2009
The LG KP500, also tagged as the LG Cookie, is a slim and light touch-sensitive handset, weighing 89 grams and measuring 11.9 x 55.4 x 106.5 millimetres. It is available in four colours of sleek black, classy gold, stunning silver and subtle brown for users to choose from. Externally, the this resembles LG's famous KC910 Renoir model phone, but is equipped with different technologies and offers a variety of features.

This phone is a head-turner with its 76.2-millimetre TFT display screen illuminated by about 262,000 colours over a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. The LG Cookie's screen has an auto-rotate function that allows viewing of picture wallpapers and screensavers in vertical and horizontal modes. For screen selections, a stylus has been provided with the mobile phone kit. Personalising the handset is also possible with the selection of polyphonic ringtones, as well as support for ringtones in MP3 format.

Operating on quadband technology and specifically covering GSMs 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 networks, the LG Cookie is an efficient worldwide roaming device for on-the-go users. As a rule of thumb, network coverage still depends on the mobile phone user's service provider.

The LG Cookie is capable of getting its user connected to the Internet through a WAP 2.0 browser in XHTML and HTML. Users who wish to share data or files use the support for USB cable transfers to and from compatible devices. For wireless connections, the Bluetooth tool integrated in the handset may be utilized. This handset is powered by EDGE and GPRS technologies, ensuring efficient and faster data downloads and file transfers.

You can expect the classic services of SMS or text that works on predictive text, as well as MMS or multimedia messaging. As it has the ability to get connected to the Internet, the phone allows access to email right on the handset.

The LG Cookie flaunts its competence in convenient business assistance. Its typical organiser features include a phonebook for keeping a list of contacts intact, a calendar, a clock, an alarm clock, and a calculator. It also supports viewing of documents in .doc, .xls and .pdf file formats. For ease of use during phone calls, the phone has a handsfree speakerphone. Moreover, it supports the touchscreen handwriting recognition feature.

The Cookie can pass for handy snapshot gadget with its integrated 3.2-Megapixel digital camera. The built-in camera allows tweaking of photos in terms of effects by adjusting the camera settings. In addition, the camera can serve as a video recorder and allows streaming of videos in MPEG4 and 3GP formats.

Similarly, the LG Cookie serves as a portable music player for users who love listening to their favourite tracks. The handset allows music playing in MP3, AAC and WMA audio formats. As an added feature, there is FM radio with RDS that allows users to tune in to their preferred radio stations, and receive news and information while listening to radio tracks right through the mobile phone.

Besides pleasing photography and music enthusiasts with its camera and music player capabilities, the handset also offers top experience for gaming aficionados. The handset has embedded games in Java format, and supports downloading of Java games as well.

LG designed the Cookie mobile phone to last for 3.3 hours of talk time, or an equivalent of 350 hours of standby time. Internally, the handset is able to keep as much as 48 Megabytes of data, which storage capacity can be expanded to up to 8 Gigabytes using a MicroSD memory card.

Although sleek-looking and equipped with top technologies, the LG Cookie displeases some of its users with its flaws. Certain users complain that the handset could have been better if it does not keep on rebooting, and recognises or synchronises proficiently with computers. For some, this device is good enough, although its camera could use a few more Megapixels to capture quality pictures. Because it is not Wi-Fi or HSDPA supported, the internet connection tends to be slow, according to another dissatisfied user.

Although not as striking as other LG creations in terms of power and functionalities, the LG Cookie had been appreciated for its good performance overall.

Bought the Cookie for my daughter and overall very impressed with the features and ease of use. Only complaint which is quite a problem (so much so that we are considering taking it back)is that it keeps dialling out on its own - keylock is activated but you only have to press it for a couple of seconds to get it off (which happens in her pocket) and hey presto it dials out and uses all your credit!

LG cookie is a touch screen mobile phone with 3.2 megapixel camera, mp3 player, fm radio, video recorder, sms with predictive text. theres an internet browser, email, calendar, address book and alarm clock. internet access is slow because there is no hsdpa and you cant store much on the phone because the memory is tiny.

It takes a while to get used to a touch screen and I don't think it's as fast for texting, but it's neat and it looks cool in pink. Also the Cookie is much lighter and slimmer then my old phone which makes it comfortable to carry around. When you tip it the phone knows like on the iPhone so it moves the menu or whatever you're looking at so it's the right way up.

I like the camera on this for normal photos but the flash is lame and when you record videos they keep skipping. it does have a cool dashboard for looking at photos you take on it, and microsd cards are cheap so I got 8gb of storage for £15 so I'm using it for all my photos on my next holiday.

The LG Cookie is a wicked phone cos its less than 100 quid on pre pay but it still has touch screen and a 3 megapixel camera - which takes fab pics. theres a full keyboard on the screen to use for texting when you hold the phone on its side and you dont have to charge it every night because the battery normally lasts for about 3 days. theres a plastic pen that you can use for all the menus or for drawing on photos and pictures people send you.

OK, so the features are nice for the price, but it keeps rebooting itself when I use the calendar. And I keep saving the same words in the dictionary when I'm texting.

It's the best budget touch screen phone around by far. Great camera and internet - although HSDPA would have been nice - it's a bit slow sometimes. The interface was really easy to learn to use - and the handwriting thing with the stylus pen is fun - even though I found texting with the on screen keypad easier.

It's crazy that LG used to make such bad phones because the lg cookie is so good. it's thin and light for a touch screen and has a good 3 megapixel camera. the battery actually lasts, unlike on lots of fancy smartphones, and the touch screen is sensitive but not too sensitive that you make loads of mistakes.

I have had this phone for a few months now, and after having the viewty I would say its better, other than the viewty has a 5mega pixel camera. The only probs I have had with the cookie is has shut down twice on its own.I love the widgets and how you can customise the front screen. Overall good phone and cheaply priced.

i've had this phone for about 2 weeks now and i think it's amazing! One thing that i've noticed about the other reviews is that the other owners fail to mention the pros and cons of the phone. Yes it is cheap for a touch phone, it has all these amazing features but it has its downsides as well. For example, the cookie has a tendency to just suddenly shut itself off, starting up takes a lot of time, and sometimes, for some strange reason, its message alert won't go off. On the other hand, i think that you'll get your money's worth if you buy this phone. Sure it doesn't have 3G or Wi-Fi but who needs it anyways? It doesn't have any flash, that's why it's a cell phone. Overall, i think that anybody who buys this would really enjoy using it.

I got this fone for christmas and have had no problems at all. it is very slim and a good pocket size. good size screen.great camera and video camera. great to text with. the pen that comes with it is cool and is good to use but i prefere to use my fingers because they are small. the only thing i don't like is on the actual screen you have to keep on the calender and sounds and date things and you can't take them off.. but all in all i am very happy with the fone. from Rihanna age 13 -London

We bought the LG Cookie model this week. It's very slim and sleek handset that we ever had. The resolution of the screen is too good. We can really do so many functions on this mobile. We can even attach pictures for speed dialling.Selecting the picture helps us in speed dialing. It has various features like music player, camera (3.15 megapixels), handwriting recognition, motion sensor games. It's a good investment for money.
Overall Remark: Nice mobile to have.
