Clad in a stylish black casing, the HTC Touch HD is 3G Smartphone with a massive touchscreen measuring 96.52 millimetres and displays 65,000 colours over a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The handset's WGA LCD display supports TouchFLO 3D technology allowing its user to make selections through finger controls, and comes with an auto-rotate function.

The HTC Touch HD is part of HTC's line-up of Smartphones that include the HTC T-Mobile G1 Google handset, and the HTC Touch Diamond. It measures 62.8 x 115 x 12 millimetres, and weighs 147 grams inclusive of its battery. Users can choose from an array of 40 polyphonic ringtones and MIDI ringtones to give the mobile phone a distinctive personality.

The Touch HD is powered by a Qualcomm MSM processor and operates on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. It is a tri-band phone that works over GSMs 900, 1800 and 1900, as well as HSDPA 2100. It instantly connects users to the World Wide Web through its onboard HTML browser that supports Google Search and is compatible with YouTube. The mobile phone supports Wi-Fi, and connects on-the-go users to the Internet in several hotspots.

Similarly, sharing files with other compatible devices such as a laptop, a printer and a personal computer is easy using the HTC Touch HD's support for Bluetooth technology and mini USB. Because the mobile phone works on GPRS and EDGE technologies, users are assured of faster and more efficient downloads and data transfers. As it works over an HSDPA network, the handset's download rate is up to 7.2 Megabytes per second.

The HTC Touch HD supports text messaging or SMS, as well as multimedia messaging or MMS services. Owing to the Web connectivity that it offers, the phone allows users to check or send emails with attachments right on the handset. Moreover, it supports Instant Messaging services, offering users an immediate connection with their contacts.

This handset doubles as a portable organiser for its busy users with built-in applications including a phonebook for storing contacts, an alarm clock, a calendar and a document viewer that supports popular document formats. Making customary calls is made more convenient with the speakerphone feature. In addition, it supports handwriting recognition technology.

The HTC Touch HD comes with onboard imaging facilities to please picture and video-enthusiast users. The handset's 5-Megapixel camera has an autofocus function to capture photo subjects more precisely. Final picture outputs may be stored in a photo album which may be created by the user, or shown in a slide show right on the handset. In addition, its camera allows video recording and playback. Ensuring the highest clarity in terms of video playback, and equipped a dedicated key for taking still shots and videos, it can pass for a quality portable camera. A second camera of VGA CMOS quality is also pre-installed in the handset for users to make 3G video calls.

Through user-friendly touchscreen controls, a music player that supports audio formats of WAV, MP3, WMA, AAC+, AAC, eAAC+, AMR WB and AMR NB can be accessed. Users can also create playlists to keep their tracks and music files organised. A built-in FM radio with an RDS feature gives users the option to listen to their favourite radio stations while gaining access to news or information. The HTC Touch HD kit comes with a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones for that quality listening experience.

Added features of the HTC Touch HD include access to up-to-date weather reports and five-day weather forecast with the HTC Weather feature. The handset assists users to directions in certain locations using the GPS navigation technology. It also allows viewing of satellite maps through Google Maps. Mobile phone games can also be downloaded from the Internet right onto the phone for game-frenzy users.

There is a ROM capacity of 512 Megabytes and RAM of 288 Megabytes, which can be expanded through a MicroSD memory card. It offers 8 hours of GSM talk time and 7 hours in WCDMA. On standby mode, the phone can last for 440 hours in GSM and 680 hours in WCDMA. It also allows users to take part in video calls for a maximum of 2 hours.

Though highly sophisticated and advanced, some users opine that the handset would do best if it was built to run Google Android. With a 3G HSDPA capability however, the HTC Touch HD is reputed for speedy Internet connectivity, fast transfer rates and multitasking skills.
