The HTC Magic is an attractive handset clad in a casing with a glossy white finish and curved edges. It joins HTC's range of popular 3G Smartphones, such as the HTC Touch Viva, the HTC Touch 3G and the HTC Dream. The mobile phone is a head-turner with an 81.28-millimetre HVGA touchscreen that showcases picture wallpapers and images in 65,000 colours over a 320 x 480-pixel resolution. The mobile phone stands out with its array of WAV and polyphonic ringtones that users can select from.

With full dimensions of 113 x 55 x 13.65 millimetres and weight of 118.5 grams, the HTC Smartphone is a lightweight given its integrated features. Because the HTC Magic is a 3G HSDPA mobile phone, users can expect it to be a multi-tasking device.

The mobile phone is powered by Qualcomm MSM Processor, and works on Android Operating System. It is a quad band handset that operates on GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900, as well as HSDPA 900 and 2100. It offers Internet connectivity with a built-in web browser. The mobile phone supports Wi-Fi technology, allowing users to go online in hotspot areas.

Trying to share or transfer files from or to the handset with compatible devices? The HTC Magic connects with printers, scanners, personal computers and laptops to transfer data using mini USB connection. For wireless transfers, the handset utilises Bluetooth technology. Owing to its integrated support for GPRS and EDGE technologies, the mobile phone assures users of faster file transfer rates.

Like standard mobile phones, the HTC Magic offers SMS or text messaging, as well as MMS or multimedia messaging services. In addition, users may chat with their family and friends through Instant Messaging using the handset—you will not have to sit in front of a personal computer or a laptop.

Besides being equipped with business-oriented features, the HTC Magic can be a lot of fun too! It is an efficient alternative to bulky cameras for those on-the-spot picture-perfect moments with its integrated 3.2-Megapixel camera that has dedicated camera keys for ease of use. To precisely capture subjects for photos, the handset is equipped with auto focus. Users may opt to save their capture images in the virtual photo album that is pre-installed in the mobile phone. Besides taking still photos, the handset's built-in camera also captures footages and supports video playback of widely accepted video formats.

The handset also pleases music-focused users. Its built-in music player allows users to enjoy their favourite tracks anytime and anywhere. It supports WAV, MP3, WMA, AAC+, AAC, MIDI, AMR NB and OGG audio formats. Gaming enthusiasts will also enjoy the mobile phone because it supports games that can be downloaded from the Internet.

The mobile phone is fully equipped with organiser features to assist its business-oriented users. The handset has an integrated calendar for scheduling purposes, a clock to keep users on track of their schedules and a document viewer that supports all popular file formats.

The handset also has a call log feature, a speaker phone and a voice memo for ease of use when making or taking calls. Other practical applications include a barcode scanner, handwriting recognition support, GPS Navigation, Google Maps and a digital compass. Navigating the mobile phone is easy using the trackball with an Enter key.

The HTC Magic allows users to store contacts, messages, images and videos in its 512 Megabytes of ROM and 192 Megabytes of RAM. This storage capacity can be expanded through a MicroSD memory card. The handset offers users 7.5 hours of GSM talk time and 420 hours of GSM standby time.

Unhappy users have criticised the handset for its clunky features. Others have pointed out that the mobile phone’s orientation is not changeable, and its settings are found underneath an obscure menu. Others have complained about the mobile phone's lack of radio support and its camera's lack of LED flash feature. Nonetheless, satisfied users contend that those quibbles about the HTC Magic are fairly minor, given the mobile phone's staggering set of applications and advanced features. With its sleek look and top-of-the-line functionalities, the HTC Magic does a good job at pleasing both on-the-go and entertainment-focused users.
