HTC Touch Pro 2 for Business Users

8 Mar 2010
It has become an unwritten law of mobile phone naming that labelling any mobile you produce with the word 'pro' is an indication that the phone in question is designed for the serious business users of the world. Going by this rule, HTC has produced the Touch Pro 2, with Windows Mobile on board to make the experience for enterprise customers as comprehensive as possible. There are many ways in which the HTC Touch Pro 2 business credentials are exhibited and here we will try and cover as many as possible.

The first feature of the Touch Pro 2 that will benefit business users is the full QWERTY keypad which hides itself under the primary touch screen interface. Some entry level phones sport full keypads, but nothing can match the Touch Pro 2 when it comes to key size and layout. You get five full rows of keys at your disposal, which includes shortcuts to the messaging function to make navigating the phone's menus even slicker. When the keypad is revealed, the intelligent slide mechanism also has a hinge built into it. This allows you to adjust the angle of the screen to varying degrees. Few other full QWERTY smartphones offer this function, with most offering a flat angle, or some having fixed angle adjustment. This means that you can hold the Touch Pro 2 comfortably for extended periods of typing without having to adjust the phone to an awkward angle, or manoeuvre your own head to make sure that you can see what is going on onscreen. The screen itself is large and can fit websites and documents on with minimal zooming required, which makes the hardware of the Touch Pro 2 suited to business users.

Business users will typically use the email functionality of their smartphone frequently and happily the Touch Pro 2 is well equipped in this department. You can set up multiple email accounts, whether webmail-based or POP3 and have them delivered to your phone to make accessing them on the go easy. You can download attachments quickly thanks to the 3G and HSDPA connectivity and the built in document viewer and editor lets you open files of all types, including Microsoft Office documents and PDF files.

The HTC Touch Pro 2 business functions are not all software based, as it is one of the few phones to take the quality of the calling seriously. If you use the phone to serve no one but yourself, you will be able to make and receive calls with good audio quality and as a phone its performance is easily better than most of its nearest rivals. But since this is a business-oriented handset, HTC has added in something which it calls Straight Talk Technology. This is essentially an enhanced speakerphone function that turns the Touch Pro 2 into an ideal conference calling device. If you place the phone face down on a table, you will reveal its loudspeaker and microphone, both of which are obscured by an attractive grill. The loudspeaker is noisy enough to fill a large room if you need it to and the microphone comes complete with noise cancellation technology, eliminating any unwanted background noise so that the people at the other end are getting the best quality audio possible. Straight Talk also allows for slick transitions between its various business-centred functions. You could be sending an email and in the middle of doing so hold a conference call, before returning to your previous task at the end without losing any of your work. HTC has decided that the business features of the Touch Pro 2 have to be privileged above all else and the result is worth the small sacrifices in other areas.
