About Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe, officially the Republic of Zimbabwe, and formerly Southern Rhodesia, the Republic of Rhodesia and Zimbabwe Rhodesia, is a landlocked country in the southern part of the continent of Africa, between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers. It is bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the southwest, Zambia to the northwest, and Mozambique to the east. In terms of size, Zimbabwe has a total area of 752,61 390,580 sq km which is slightly larger than Montana . It has 386,670 sq km land area and 3,910 sq km water area. The UK annexed Southern Rhodesia from the British South Africa Company in 1923. A 1961 constitution was formulated that favored whites in power. In 1965 the government unilaterally declared its independence, but the UK did not recognize the act and demanded more complete voting rights for the black African majority in the country (then called Rhodesia). UN sanctions and a guerrilla uprising finally led to free elections in 1979 and independence in 1980. The population of Zimbabwe is approximately 12,382,920. The population density of it is 33/sq km. It has a population growth rate of 0.568%. Most of Zimbabwe's people belong to African ethnic group. The official and most common language of those people is English. The government of Zimbabwe faces a wide variety of difficult economic problems as it struggles with an unsustainable fiscal deficit, an overvalued official exchange rate, hyperinflation, and bare store shelves. Zimbabwe's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $2.211 billion with GDP of $200 per capita.
