About Zambia

The Republic of Zambia is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. The neighbouring countries are the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia to the south, and Angola to the west. In the 1980s and 1990s, declining copper prices and a prolonged drought hurt the economy. The population of Zambia is approximately 11,669,534. The population density of it is 16/sq km. It has a population growth rate of 1.654%. Most of Zambia's people belong to African ethnic group. The official and most common language of those people is English. Zambia's economy has experienced modest growth in recent years, with real GDP growth in 2005-07 between 5-6% per year. Privatization of government-owned copper mines in the 1990s relieved the government from covering mammoth losses generated by the industry and greatly improved the chances for copper mining to return to profitability and spur economic growth. Zambia's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $15.92 billion with GDP of $1,300 per capita.
