About Togo
The Togolese Republic is the official name of Togo . It is located in the Western Africa, bordering the Bight of Benin, between Benin and Ghana . In terms of size, Togo has a total area of 56, 785sq km area which are slightly smaller than West Virginia. It has 54,385 sq km land area and 2,400 sq km water area. The Official and commercial language of those people is French. Ewe and Mina are the two major African languages in the south whereas Kabye and Dagomba are the two major African languages in the north. In 27 April 1960, it became independent from French empire. During the period from the eleventh century to the sixteenth century, various tribes entered the region from all directions. In term of economy, it is mainly based on commercial and subsistence agriculture. Cocoa, coffee, and cotton generate about 40% of export earnings with cotton being the most important cash crop. Togo is the world's fourth-largest producer of phosphate. It has Natural resources such as Phosphates, limestone, marble. Togo's Purchasing power parity domestic product (GDP) as of 2006 estimate is approximately $5.208 billion with GDP of $800 per capita.
