About Thailand
The Kingdom of Thailand is the official name of Thailand. It is located in the Southeastern Asia, bordering the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, southeast of Burma. In terms of size, Thailand has a total area of 514,000 sq km which is slightly more than twice the size of Wyoming. It has 511,770 sq km land area and 2,230 sq km water area. The Official and most common language of those people is Thai and secondary language of the elite is English. The region known today as Thailand has been inhabited by humans since the paleolithic period (about 10,000 years ago). In 1997, Thailand was hit with the Asian financial crisis and the Thai baht for a short time peaked at 56 baht to the US dollar compared to about 25 baht to the dollar before 1997. Since then, the baht has regained most of its strength and as of 23 May 2007, is valued at 32 baht to the US dollar. Since the end of the Second World War in 1945, Thailand has had very close relations with the United States. In term of economy, it is mainly based on Agriculture, Exports, stock exchange, and tourism. Thailand exports over $105 billion worth of products annually. It has Natural resources such as Tin, rubber, natural gas, tungsten, tantalum, timber, lead, fish, gypsum, lignite, and fluorite. Thailand's Purchasing power parity domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $206.338 billion with GDP of $3,400 per capita.
