About Qatar
Qatar, officially the State of Qatar, is an Arab emirate in Southwest Asia, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeasterly coast of the larger Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south; otherwise the Persian Gulf surrounds the state. In terms of size, Qatar has a total area of 11,437 sq km which is slightly smaller than Connecticut. Ruled by the al-Thani family since the mid-1800s, Qatar transformed itself from a poor British protectorate noted mainly for pearling into an independent state with significant oil and natural gas revenues. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Qatari economy was crippled by a continuous siphoning off of petroleum revenues by the Amir, who had ruled the country since 1972. His son, the current Amir HAMAD bin Khalifa al-Thani, overthrew him in a bloodless coup in 1995. In 2001, Qatar resolved its longstanding border disputes with both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The population of Qatar is approximately 928,635. The population density of it is 74/sq km. It has a population growth rate of 2.279%. Most of Qatar's people belong to Muslim religion. The official and most common language of those people is Arabic. It has 40% of Arab and rests are Indian, Pakistani and Iranian people. Rwanda is a poor rural country with about 90% of the population engaged in (mainly subsistence) agriculture. It is the most densely populated country in Africa and is landlocked with few natural resources and minimal industry. Primary foreign exchange earners are coffee and tea. Qatar's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $75.224 billion with GDP of $80,870 per capita.
