About Niue

Niue is an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. It is commonly known as the "Rock of Polynesia". Natives of the island call it "the Rock". The population of Niue is approximately 1,444. The population density of it is 6/sq km. It has a population growth rate of -0.032%. Most of Niue's people belong to Ekalesia Niue religion. The official and most common languages of those people are Niuean and English. It has 78.2% of Niue people and rests are Pacific Islander, European, mixed and Asian people. The economy suffers from the typical Pacific island problems of geographic isolation, few resources, and a small population. Government expenditures regularly exceed revenues, and the shortfall is made up by critically needed grants from New Zealand that are used to pay wages to public employees. Niue's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2003 estimate is approximately $7.6 million with GDP of $5,800 per capita.
