About Montenegro

Montenegro is a country located in South-eastern Europe. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the south and borders Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast, Albania to the southeast. The use of the name Montenegro began in the 15th century when the Crnojevic dynasty began to rule the Serbian principality of Zeta; over subsequent centuries Montenegro was able to maintain its independence from the Ottoman Empire. From the 16th to 19th centuries, Montenegro became a theocracy ruled by a series of bishop princes; in 1852, it was transformed into a secular principality. The population of Montenegro is approximately 678,177. The population density of it is 50/sq km. It has a population growth rate of -0.925%. Most of Montenegro 's people belong to Orthodox, Muslim, and Roman Catholic religion. The official and most common language of those people is Montenegrin. Montenegro severed its economy from federal control and from Serbia during the Milosevic era and maintained its own central bank, used the euro instead of the Yugoslav dinar as official currency, collected customs tariffs, and managed its own budget. Montenegro's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $5.918 billion with GDP of $3,800 per capita.
