The Maldives, officially the Republic of Maldives, is an island nation consisting of a group of atolls in the Indian Ocean. The Maldives is located south of India's Lakshadweep islands, and about seven hundred kilometres south-west of Sri Lanka. The name "Maldives" may derive from Maale Dhivehi Raajje. The population of Maldives is approximately 379,174 . The population density of it is 1,105/sq km. It has a population growth rate of 2.69%. Most of Maldives's people belong to Sunni Muslim religion. The official and most common language of those people is Dhivehi. Tourism, Maldives' largest industry, accounts for 28% of GDP and more than 60% of the Maldives' foreign exchange receipts.
