About Madagascar

Madagascar, or Republic of Madagascar (older name Malagasy Republic), is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeastern coast of Africa. The population density of it is 33/sq km. It has a population growth rate of 3.005% . Most of Madagascar's people belong to indigenous beliefs and Christian religion. The official and most common languages of those people are Malagasy, French, English. Agriculture, including fishing and forestry, is a mainstay of the economy, accounting for more than one-fourth of GDP and employing 80% of the population. Exports of apparel have boomed in recent years primarily due to duty-free access to the US. Madagascar's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $18.12 billion with GDP of $1,100 per capita.
