About Macao

The Macao Special Administrative Region, commonly known as Macau or Macao. It is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China, the other being Hong Kong. Since opening up its locally-controlled casino industry to foreign competition in 2001, the territory has attracted tens of billions of dollars in foreign investment that have helped transform it into the world's largest gaming centre. Macao's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $12.5 billion with GDP of $28,400 per capita.
