About Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan, officially the Kyrgyz Republic, is a country in Central Asia. Landlocked and mountainous, it is bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west, Tajikistan to the southwest and China to the east. In terms of size, Kyrgyzstan has a total area of 198,500 sq km which is slightly smaller than South Dakota. It has 191,300 sq km land area and 7,200 sq km water area. Kyrgyzstan became a Soviet republic in 1936 and achieved independence in 1991 when the USSR dissolved. The population of Kyrgyzstan is approximately 5,356,869. The population density of it is 26/sq km. It has a population growth rate of 1.38%. Most of Kyrgyzstan's people belong to Muslim religion. The official and most common language of those people are Kyrgyz and Russian. It has 65% of Kyrgyz and rest are Uzbek, Russian, Dungan, Ukrainian and Uygur people. Kyrgyzstan is a poor, mountainous country with a predominantly agricultural economy. Cotton, tobacco, wool, and meat are the main agricultural products, although only tobacco and cotton are exported in any quantity. Industrial exports include gold, mercury, uranium, natural gas, and electricity. Kyrgyzstan's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2005 estimate is approximately $10.764 billion with GDP of $2,150 per capita.
