About Eritrea
The State of Eritrea is the official name of Eritrea. It is located in the Eastern Africa, bordering the Red Sea, between Djibouti and Sudan. In terms of size, it has 121,320 sq km of total area which is slightly larger than Pennsylvania. The population of it is approximately 5,028,475. The population density of it is 37/sq km. It has 2.447% of population growth rate. Eritrean people belong to Muslim, Coptic Christian, Roman Catholic, and Protestant religion. Eritrea was awarded to Ethiopia in 1952 as part of a federation. Ethiopia's annexation of Eritrea as a province 10 years later sparked a 30-year struggle for independence that ended in 1991 with Eritrean rebels defeating governmental forces; independence was overwhelmingly approved in a 1993 referendum. A two-and-a-half-year border war with Ethiopia that erupted in 1998 ended under UN auspices in December 2000. In term of economy, like the economies of many African nations, the economy is largely based on subsistence agriculture, with 80% of the population involved in farming and herding. Its Purchasing power parity domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $3.619 billion with GDP of $800 per capita.
