About Ecuador
The Republic of Ecuador is the official name of Ecuador. It is located in the Western South America, bordering the Pacific Ocean at the Equator, between Colombia and Peru. In terms of size, it has 283,560 sq km of total area which is slightly smaller than Nevada. It has 276,840 sq km of land area and 6,720 sq km of water area. The population of it is approximately 13,927,650. The population density of it is 53.8/km?. It has 0.935% of population growth rate. 95% of Ecuadorian people belong to Roman Catholic religion. Official language of those people is Spanish. The territories of the Viceroyalty - New Granada (Colombia), Venezuela, and Quito - gained their independence between 1819 and 1822 and formed a federation known as Gran Colombia. When Quito withdrew in 1830, the traditional name was changed in favour of the "Republic of the Equator." Between 1904 and 1942, Ecuador lost territories in a series of conflicts with its neighbours. A border war with Peru that flared in 1995 was resolved in 1999. Although Ecuador marked 25 years of civilian governance in 2004, the period has been marred by political instability.. In term of economy, Ecuador is substantially dependent on its petroleum resources, which have accounted for more than half of the country's export earnings and one-fourth of public sector revenues in recent years. It has natural resources such as Petroleum, fish, shrimp, timber, gold. Its Purchasing power parity domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $98.79 billion with GDP of $7,200 per capita.
