The Czech Republic is located in the Central Europe, southeast of Germany. In terms of size, it has 78,866 sq km of total area which is slightly smaller than South Carolina. With the collapse of Soviet authority in 1989, Czechoslovakia regained its freedom through a peaceful "Velvet Revolution." On 1 January 1993, the country underwent a "velvet divorce" into its two national components, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Czech Republic joined NATO in 1999 and the European Union in 2004. In term of economy, The Czech Republic is one of the most stable and prosperous of the post-Communist states of Central and Eastern Europe. It has Natural resources such as hard coal, soft coal, kaolin, clay, graphite, timber. Its Purchasing power parity domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $248.9 billion with GDP of $24,200 per capita.
