About Cameroon
The Republic of Cameroon is a unitary republic of central and western Africa. It borders Nigeria to the west; Chad to the northeast; the Central African Republic to the east; and Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and the Republic of the Congo to the south. Cameroon's coastline lies on the Bight of Bonny, part of the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. The country is called "Africa in miniature" for its geological and cultural diversity. The former French Cameroon and part of British Cameroon merged in 1961 to form the present country. Cameroon has generally enjoyed stability, which has permitted the development of agriculture, roads, and railways, as well as a petroleum industry. The population of Cameroon is approximately 18,467,692. The population density of it is 37/sq km. It has of population growth rate 2.218%. Most of Cameroon's people belong to indigenous beliefs religion. Official and most common language of those people are French and English. It has 31% of Cameroon Highlanders people and rest are Equatorial Bantu, Kirdi, Fulani, Northwestern Bantu, Eastern Nigritic and other African. Because of its modest oil resources and favorable agricultural conditions, Cameroon has one of the best-endowed primary commodity economies in sub-Saharan Africa. Still, it faces many of the serious problems facing other underdeveloped countries, such as a top-heavy civil service and a generally unfavorable climate for business enterprise. Cameroon's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $43.196 billion with GDP of $2,421 per capita.
