About Bolivia
The Republic of Bolivia, named after Simon Bolivar, is a landlocked country in central South America. It is bordered by Brazil on the north and east, Paraguay and Argentina on the south, and Chile and Peru on the west. In terms of size, Bolivia has a total area of 1,098,580 sq km which is about slightly less than three times the size of Montana. It has 1,084,390 sq km land area and 14,190 sq km water area. The struggle for independence started in 1809, and after 16 years of war the republic was proclaimed on August 6, 1825, named for Bolivian War of Independence. In 1836, Bolivia, under the rule of Marshal Andres de Santa Cruz, invaded Peru to reinstall the deposed president, General Luis Orbegoso. Peru and Bolivia formed the Peru-Bolivian Confederation, with de Santa Cruz as the Supreme Protector. Following tensions between the Confederation and Chile, Chile declared war on December 28, 1836. The population of Bolivia is approximately 9,247,816. The population density of it is 8.4/sq km. It has of population growth rate 1.383%. Most of Bhutanís people belong to Roman Catholic religion. Official and most common language of those people is Dzongkha. It has 30% Quechua, 30% mestizo, 25% Aymara and 15% white. Bolivia is the poorest country in South America. The country is rich in natural resources, and has been called a donkey sitting on a gold-mine because of this. Bolivia's 2002 gross domestic product (GDP) totaled USD $7.9 billion. Economic growth is about 2.5% a year, and inflation was expected to be between 3% and 4% in 2002 (it was under 2% in 2001). Boliviaís gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $25.684 billion with GDP of $2,817 per capita.
