About Armenia

Armenia, officially the Republic of Armenia, is a landlocked mountainous country in Eurasia between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea in the Southern Caucasus. It borders Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and the Nakhchivan exclave of Azerbaijan to the south. Throughout its history, the kingdom of Armenia enjoyed periods of independence intermitted with periods of autonomy subject to contemporary empires. Armenia's strategic location between two continents has subjected it to invasions by many peoples, including the Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Mongols, Persians, Ottoman Turks and Russians. The population of Armenia is approximately 2,968,586. The population density of it is 101/sq km. It has of population growth rate -0.077%. Most of Armeniaís people belong to Armenian Apostolic religion. Official and most common language of those people is Armenian. It has 97.9% of white people and rest of the 2.1% are Yazidi and Russian. In terms of economy, The Armenian economy heavily relies on investment and support from Armenians abroad. Before independence, Armenia's economy was largely industry-based chemicals, electronics, machinery, processed food, synthetic rubber, and textiles and highly dependent on outside resources. Agriculture contributed only 20% of net material product and 10% of employment before the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991. The republic had developed a modern industrial sector, supplying machine tools, textiles, and other manufactured goods to sister republics in exchange for raw materials and energy. Armeniaís gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $16.83 billion with GDP of $5,700 per capita.
