About Angola
Angola, officially the Republic of Angola, is a country in south-central Africa bordering Namibia to the south, Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, and Zambia to the east, and with a west coast along the Atlantic Ocean. The exclave province Cabinda has a border with the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Angola was a Portuguese colony from the 16th century to 1975. The country is the second-largest petroleum and diamond producer in sub-Saharan Africa, yet its people are among the continent's poorest. It is located in Southern Africa, bordering the South Atlantic Ocean, between Namibia and Democratic Republic of the Congo. In terms of size, Angola has a total of 1,246,700 sq km area. It is slightly less than twice the size of Texas. Khoisan hunter-gatherers are some of the earliest known modern human inhabitants of the area. They were largely replaced by Bantu tribes during Bantu migrations, though small numbers of Khoisan remain in parts of southern Angola to the present day. The population of Angola is approximately 12,531,357. The population density of it is 13/sq km. It has of population growth rate 2.136%. 47% of Angolans belong to indigenous beliefs religion and rest are from Roman Catholic and Protestant. Official and most common language of those people is Portuguese. It has 37% of ovimbundu people and rest are mixed Kimbundu, Bakongo, mestico (mixed European and native African), European. In terms of its economy, Angola's high growth rate is driven by its oil sector, with record oil prices and rising petroleum production. Oil production and its supporting activities contribute about 85% of GDP. Increased oil production supported growth averaging more than 15% per year from 2004 to 2007. Angola's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2005 estimate is approximately $43.362 billion with GDP of $2,813 per capita.
