It seems strange that the world’s most subscribed-to network provider – China Mobile – does not yet carry the world’s most famous phone – the Apple iPhone.
China Mobile is the only network provider in China that remains deprived of Apple’s flagship phone, as its homegrown 3G technology is not compatible with the chips used in iPhones.
However, with the much talked-about iPhone 5 expected to be announced soon, it’s thought that the phone will use Qualcomm chips, making it compatible with China Mobile.
China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua said,
‘We’ve been actively talking to Apple on how we can cooperate… I can’t give you too many details, but I’d like to repeat that both sides do hope to boost our cooperation.’
China Mobile have expressed their intentions to ‘become a more global company,’ and is hoping to offer mobile services between the United States and China. However, US authorities could have an issue with this move over security concerns.
‘We have applied to the United States for a license, but it’s not been rejected yet. Rather, it’s undergoing the relevant procedure. We hope the U.S. government will give us their approval soon for us to expand our services there.’
