Samsung Genio Qwerty User Interface
The Samsung Genio QWERTY is a good looking messaging phone aimed at teenagers and young professionals who want to be able to tap out reams and reams of long text messages and emails. It features a full QWERTY keypad and a medium sized screen and though some have complained that the keys are a little cramped, it is really just a case of getting used to the layout and practicing for a while. Once you have spent a few hours with the Genio QWERTY you will quickly be able to type without making a mistake too often.
Despite its low price, the Samsung Genio QWERTY interface has the look and feel of a real smartphone about it. This includes several time-saving features and a well designed menu system that really allows the interface to provide the user with an intuitive yet versatile experience. Like all modern mobiles the Genio QWERTY makes its homescreen much more than a place to display the time and customise the background. It is packed with shortcuts and widgets which can be altered and used to quickly access applications and online sites that are frequently used. Along the bottom of the screen you will find a selection of links that will jump you straight into social networking sites like Myspace or Facebook. These little widgets can be scrolled through to the left or right, so there is a wide selection on offer.
If you prefer to use the main menu of the Samsung Genio QWERTY interface then the left hand softkey will take you there from the homescreen. The main menu has an array of 12 icons that you would typically expect to find on any mobile phone. This includes access to messaging, settings, web browser and media player to name but a few. Each menu screen is limited to a single page, unless you have a list of files or messages to scroll through, but this gives the Genio QWERTY’s interface an uncluttered look that actually works in its favour.
The Genio QWERTY comes with a preinstalled web browser called Access Netfront. This is a fairly basic browser that works adequately, but as the phone is compatible with Java applications and has an EDGE networking connection it is well worth installing the Opera Mini browser, which has become a popular alternative for many phone users. The QWERTY interface of this phone works particularly well when you are browsing websites, entering search terms or filling in surveys online.
As mentioned earlier the best way to get used to the QWERTY keypad featured on this phone is to actually clock up some hours from the very beginning. Thankfully you do not have to perform this by texting everyone you know, as the Genio QWERTY comes with a preinstalled game which aims to improve your typing skills. The typing test game will have you quickly manipulating every aspect of the Samsung Genio QWERTY interface to your requirements and in this case practice really does make perfect.
It might be easy to dismiss the Genio QWERTY as a cheap imitation of the popular BlackBerry smartphones, but to do so would be to do a disservice to an extremely capable messaging phone. Whilst its looks and interface ape the more expensive business-oriented handsets, this phone manages to offer a similar level of functionality without coming with a similar price tag. The Samsung Genio QWERTY interface looks professional, although you can of course customise it to seem a little more playful and appropriate to your own social life.
