Binatone Big Button Phone Launched for Visually Impaired Users

The new Binatone “Speakeasy” Phone will be launched this week by specialist mobile supplier Communic8 Ltd. Folkestone based Communic8 Ltd have been major leaders in the market for producing mobile phones for the older generation and visually impaired user for quite some tome now.

Up until now big button phones like the “Emporia” have all been high end products costing £150 or more. The new Speakeasy mobile phone has been launched as a low cost alternative and is the first big button phone to be launched in the UK budget price range.

In recent years mobile phones have become smaller and smaller and are jam packed with complex features and additions like camera’s. While that may be great for the vast majority of users who are switched on to new technology, some of the older generation can feel technically challenged by these features and are happier with a more basic offering of mobile phone.

The visually impaired and elderly users have needs that aren’t always met by the newer more sophisticated model of mobile phone. Buttons and screens which are small and hard to see and a large selection of menus and sub menus just cause confusion and can make the user experience a bit of a trial rather than a pleasant experience.

With its back to basics no nonsense approach the Binatone Speakeasy is a welcome alternative to the new smartphones and while extremely easy to use it still boasts some nice features.

The Speakeasy mobile has an extra large display, speakerphone, loud ringer and strong vibration alerts. It also features a torch function and is compatible with digital hearing aids, which is a terrific boon for the elderly. Other features include caller ID, direct SMS key, and a unique notepad at the back of the handset. Importantly the phone is SIM free and is not locked to any network.

While the phone has been designed to incorporate big buttons the Speakeasy still remains a slim and comfortable size.

“For the first time, Elderly people have access to a fantastic, easy to use mobile phone at an affordable price and we are delighted that Binatone have decided to work with us to launch the Speakeasy mobile phone” commented Stewart Smith Managing Director of Communic8 Ltd.

The Binatone Speakeasy phone is available through the Communic8 website at www. .silverphone.co.uk and costs £49.99.

This phone would definitely make a nice thoughtful Christmas present for an elderly relative at a reasonable price for the benefits that it can bring.

What cell phones for the visually impaired are available in the USA? My cell service provider is Verizon, but they do not currently offer any cell phones for the visually impaired. I am looking for a standard sized cell phone with large, preferably back lit, numbers and a larger than normal screen and print out.

I hope someone has some suggestions and/or answers.

    Thanks!
